Washington MO counselor Katie Walker has been a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor since 1997. I have worked in the mental health field for well over a decade, assisting adults with chronic and persistent mental illness to learn coping skills, enabling them to better manage their symptoms and lead more fulfilling lives.
I have experience in a variety of clinical settings ranging from leading group therapy sessions to individual counseling sessions, mental health assessments, focused behavioral coaching interventions, and occupational/job skills coaching. I offer brief, solution-based therapy that addresses issues related to stress, depression, and family/marital conflict.
I find it especially rewarding to work with people who want to move forward to their next goal or planned destination in their life journey, including those who are “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” I help with goal setting and realistic measures of progress toward goals, while boosting the motivation to keep going. I also examine any barriers to achieving goals and develop strategies to remove them or minimize their effects. I assist clients in learning how to effectively cope with their issues so they can live with intention, purpose, and personal meaning.
For clients with a faith focus, I believe it is essential to tap into your spirituality as a primary source of encouragement for personal worth and opportunities to grow.
My office is a safe place to explore and come to terms with intense emotions, while also learning how to calm your emotions and cope with them.
My experience as a counselor also includes being an approved licensing supervisor for other counselors seeking their two years of supervised experience. I have provided licensure supervision to several other counselors working in this area.
